In Pakistan, the need to transport oil has been growing at a fast rate, to sustain industrial growth and a progressive agricultural sector. Movement by road has been causing congestions, delays, accidents, road degradation and environmental concerns are becoming more acute, particularly in urban areas as the energy requirements grow at a fast pace. Pipeline transportation of petroleum is the ideal solution of these problems.
The Korangi – Port Qasim Link Pipeline (KPLP) links Port Qasim with Korangi station for further storage and pumping, then passes through Kirthar mountain range and areas of Sindh and Punjab along Indus right bank and it shares the Right Of Way with Sui Southern Gas Company and PARCO Oil pipeline. It crosses Indus River at Ghazi Ghat to reach Mehmood Kot running over a one-kilometer long dedicated bridge. PAPCO has reduced the movement of about 4,000 trucks operating out of Keamari to Mehmood Kot and back.
